Jan Scott, MB BS, MD, FRCPsych

Jan Scott is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Newcastle and she holds visiting professorships at IoPPN, London; in Sydney, Paris and Trondheim, Norway. She also holds a ‘Science without Borders’ fellowship involving research and teaching in Brazil. Professor Scott is a Distinguished Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (one of 8 individuals worldwide).

Jan’s recent research focuses on the importance of understanding developmental trajectories of mood disorders, and the implications of clinical staging models for research and clinical practice- especially exploring clinical phenotypes (such as activation, sleep-wake cycle abnormalities and rumination) and new psychological interventions for emerging bipolar disorders; she also continues her interests in psychopathology and mechanisms of action of psychological interventions.
